Jean-Baptiste “Illinois” Jacquet is today’s tenor titan. His gutbucket, skronking style set the template for many jazzmen to follow, not least of whom, James Carter, was featured on our own Gold Sounds cd. Despite the moniker, Jacquet was born in Louisiana and lived most of his life in Houston. Jacquet’s Soul Explosion Lp is a BBR touchstone.
