No tenor sax list is worth anything without Walter Theodore “Sonny” Rollins. Any words written about him are reductive because his playing is indescribable. Just go listen to Way Out West or Tenor Madness or The Bridge, which he famously watershedded in late night sessions on the Williamsburg Bridge. The Brown Brothers saw him about a decade ago in Port Chester. We hope he lives forever.
