Edward “Sonny” Stitt was actually born with the last name Boatner in Boston but given up for adoption by dad Ed Boatner and adopted by the Stitt family. He is one of the few saxmen who were almost equally proficient and well known for tenor and alto playing but he lands here rather than the tenor list because of the similarity of his alto sound to Charlie Parker. His Constellation lp on the Cobblestone label is a great place to start in his rich discography.
