Donaldson Toussaint L’Ouverture “Donald” Byrd II first came to prominence as Clifford Brown’s replacement in The Jazz Messengers. He went on to play with Monk, Trane and Sonny Rollins.  He’s probably remembered best, though, for being on the forefront of the funk-jazz movement in the 70s. His Blue Note releases from this period were some of the biggest sellers in that prestigious label’s history. He’s today’s BBR trumpet spotlight.
