Irving Stanley “Duke” Jordan is today’s BBR piano week selection. Duke was born in NY where he learned to play piano so well Charlie Parker picked him for the band which recorded most of Parker’s music for the Dial label. Miles was also in that band for a time so you know Duke kept some fast company. Duke later worked with Sonny Stitt before relocating to Denmark where he lived out his days married to singer Sheila Jordan. At BBR we love Duke best for his leader albums on Denmark’s Steeplechase label. Congrats Duke, we remember and have put you in your well earned place in piano week.
