Errol Garner, a 5 foot 2 man who never learned to read music and had to sit on multiple telephone directories to reach the keys, is today’s BBR piano week star. Errol was born in Pittsburgh and attended the same high school as other piano greats Billy Strayhorn and Ahmad Jamal. He played with Charlie Parker and was Johnny Carson’s favorite player, appearing on Carson’s Tonight Show several times. But, all that means nothing compared to the sounds he got from the piano. Congrats Errol, you made it.
