With all due respect to Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal and McCoy Tyner, all of whom missed the cut of BBR piano week, after 17 days piano week MUST end with Thelonious Monk. At BBR we prize originality above even technique and virtuosity and no one was more original than Monk. He never made much money but he left an indelible legacy. Tomorrow we turn the page to bassists.
