Ray Brown kicks BBR bass week up several notches because his playing was so good he was the first individual superstar of the traditionally background instrument. His playing was so good he HAD to play with other virtuosos because even top notch players got overwhelmed by his skill. As a result he was best known for his work with Dizzy, Oscar Peterson and his wife Ella Fitzgerald. He changed the idea of what was possible on the bass and towered over even other great bassists. One of the rare talents who is a genre unto himself and played at the highest level well into his 70s. Congrats Ray, you are the cornerstone of BBR bass week.
