Chatanooga, Tennessee’s Jimmy Blanton is said to have invented the pizzicato bass solo in a jazz context. He played with Fate Marable and Duke Ellington in the 1920s and died from tuberculosis at 23 years old.  Although it’s difficult to make out his sounds due to the age of his recordings, he is today’s BBR bass week star. Congrats Jimmy.
