Eugene Bertram “Gene” Krupa is today’s BBR drummer week star. Gene was born in Chicago to Polish immigrant parents and groomed to be a Roman Catholic priest. But he decided to invent the modern drum kit and flail away behind greats like Benny Goodman and Bix Beiderbecke. Later in life he taught drums to Peter Criss of Kiss and the drummer for the New York Dolls. His drum battles with Buddy Rich are worth seeking out. An alchemist of rhythm.
