BBR drummer week bangs on with Philly’s Paul Motian.  Paul has worked with more top piano players than virtually any drummer.  Monk, Tristano, Bill Evans, Jarrett, Bley, and Mehldau to name just a few.  He was an innovator in freeing drummers from strictly time keeping duties and finds spots in songs to play which are usually unexpected but still sound spot on.  For the last few decades he has played a lot with Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano and his long association with ECM has produced one of the more impressive drummer-leader catalogs.  He’s perhaps the top drummer in  history of Armenian descent.   Roll on Mr. Motian, today you are a star-of BBR drummer week.
