Get ready for the riff-age: BBR guitar week starts with Jimmy Ponder. Jimmy, like so many other bbr featured artists during instrument weeks, was born in Pittsburgh. He moved to Philly and New York, while working the fretboard as a sideman for Lou Donaldson, Stanley Turrentine and Charles Earland. He recorded a bunch of leader albums for current BBR label obsessions Milestone, Muse and Cadet. Near the end of his cancer-shortened life Jimmy said,
“God gave us this gift of music, if we play with 100 percent heart, soul and our best ability and we reach one person for one moment, we’ve honored that gift and done our job.”
Amen Jimmy and consider your mission accomplished: you kick off BBR guitar week.
