Patrick “Pat” Metheny from the show-me state is today’s star of BBR guitar week. Pat won a contest at 15, went to NYC to see Jim Hall and Ron Carter and leapt into guitar history. Manfred Eicher invested in Pat in the 70s and Pat rewarded him with a consistent run of artistic excellence. Together with Lyle Mays’ piano, Pat’s guitar WAS the sound of ECM in the 70s. Pat continued his run of brilliance even after he left ECM and here at BBR we’ve always been partial to his soundtrack to The Falcon and the Snowman with his duet with David Bowie on “This is not America” encapsulating the Hight school years of the nascent Brown Brothers. Congrats Pat, you’re in….guitar week at BBR.
